Master Science in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) Overview

The Marriage and Family Therapy Master's of Science Degree Program (MS-MFT) is a 60 semester hour course of study that provides the essential coursework and foundation for clinical practice and for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in Hawaii. The MS-MFT program prepares candidates in family systems therapy and relational/systemic philosophy through the integration of theory, practice and research. MFTs work with individuals, couples, families and groups on mental health, behavioral, personal and/or relational concerns and are employed in a wide range of settings, including public and private sectors, profit and non-profit agencies, hospitals and social service agencies, and private practice. The MS-MFT is the only one of its kind in Hawaii and offers the only on-ground, Hawaii-based MFT program that provides candidates a direct pathway to licensure in the state of Hawaii. The program is also offered fully online for students from neighboring islands or outside of Hawaii.
