Integrated Bachelor and Master of Science (B.S + M.S.M.F.T) Requirements

The 4+2 MS-MFT Pathway at Chaminade University of Honolulu is an integrated program designed to support undergraduate students in earning their Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy (MS-MFT) degree.

This pathway allows students to begin taking graduate-level MFT courses during their junior and senior years while completing their bachelor's degree in four years. By getting an early start on graduate coursework, students can transition directly into the MS-MFT program and complete their master’s degree in less than the typical 2.5 years. The program is open to students from any undergraduate major at Chaminade University who are committed to a career in systemic, relational therapy as a Marriage and Family Therapist.

 The MS-MFT Commitment (4+2) Program requirements for eligibility, curriculum, academic performance, and registration/tuition:

Eligibility and Application:

  • Students must be enrolled as undergraduates at Chaminade University.

  • They must apply to the program before their junior year (earlier applications are preferred).

  • Applications are submitted directly to the MS-MFT Program Director.

Continued Eligibility and Admission:

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher must be maintained throughout undergraduate studies.

  • Students must successfully complete at least two required MS-MFT graduate courses with a grade of B or higher.

Curriculum:

  • MS-MFT graduate courses are taken during Accelerated Fall and Winter terms in the junior and senior years.

  • Eligible MS-MFT courses include: MFT 554 Individual & Systemic Diagnosis, MFT 602 Family Development through the Lifespan, MFT 551 Theories 1, and MFT 552 Theories 2 (12 credits total).

  • At least two of these MS-MFT courses must be completed during the undergraduate program to maintain MS-MFT program admission eligibility.

  • MS-MFT courses not completed during undergraduate studies will be required at the graduate tuition rate.

  • Non-Psychology majors can use the MS-MFT courses as Free Electives.

Academic Performance:

  • A grade of B or higher is required in all MS-MFT courses taken as an undergraduate.

  • A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher must be maintained.

  • A 3.0 GPA or higher is required for admission to the MS-MFT program after completing the bachelor's degree; students with a GPA below 3.0 will be admitted provisionally.

Registration and Tuition:

  • Day Undergraduate Students: MS-MFT courses are covered by the undergraduate tuition rate if the student is enrolled full-time (12 credits minimum); remaining MS-MFT courses are charged at the graduate rate after the bachelor's degree is completed.

  • Flex Undergraduate Students: MS-MFT courses are NOT covered by undergraduate tuition; Flex students pay the graduate rate for MS-MFT courses and must confirm with Financial Aid about taking graduate courses.

Application and Admission Process:

  • Students apply to the MS-MFT Program Director and receive approval.

  • Students meet with the MS-MFT Program Director or an advisor to create a course plan.

  • Students who meet all requirements are admitted to the MS-MFT program upon completing their bachelor's degree and will be notified of their admission status (fully classified or provisional) based on their final undergraduate GPA.
