Description

This course provides an overview of behavioral and social-emotional assessment and intervention strategies in PK-12 schools. Students will examine the principles of learning theory, behavior modification, and positive behavioral supports, as well as the methods, principles, and
theories related to social-emotional learning and functioning. The course will focus on the classification, assessment, and best practices that inform intervention planning for behavioral and social-emotional difficulties. Students will develop skills in selecting target behaviors,
understanding techniques for increasing and decreasing behaviors, and implementing intervention strategies such as contingency contracting and group management. Additionally, students will learn to conduct assessments of PK-12 students' social and emotional needs and apply critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based decision-making in the development of intervention plans.
