International Students
Chaminade University regularly admits students from other countries and welcomes the international representation they bring to the student body. It is recognized, however, that students from other countries may have special needs with regard to language, finances, living arrangements, and other matters pertaining to college or personal life.
International students must have a visa status that allows academic study at Chaminade University. This can include temporary U.S. visas such as F-1 student visas, J-1 exchange visitors, H-1 temporary worker, dependent visas or any other non-immigrant classifications.
Assistance with these concerns and with immigration and visa requirements are available in the Record's Office.
International applications will be processed through the Office of Admissions. I-20 processing will be conducted through the Records Office.
Applicants who are citizens of a country other than the United States must present the official credentials required for admission as a first-year or transfer student as well as the following:
• Official records for at least the last four years of secondary school study and any university level or post-secondary course work that has been completed or attempted. These records must list all subjects taken, grades earned, or examination results in each subject, and all diplomas and certificates.
• Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit official results from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), minimum score on the TOEFL –IBT is 79. • Apply for an evaluation of an undergraduate college transcript to a member of the following organization: National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://www.naces.org/)
• All international students must provide evidence of financial capacity for the cost of their education, including tuition, fees, course materials and living expenses.
As part of the application, all international applicants will need to provide: a copy of their current valid passport, Certificate of Finances with appropriate supporting documents and VISA (is student already holds a valid VISA at the time of application).
Certificate of Finances
Once you’ve been offered admission to your program, your admissions portal checklist will require you to upload a Certificate of Finances showing proof of ability to cover your cost of attendance (tuition, fees, books and supplies, room and board, etc.) for the upcoming academic year.
Your I-20 will not be issued until this certificate is received , reviewed and approved.
Acceptable Financial Documents
•Personal Funds: Bank statement(s)** in the applicant’s name showing balance of account.
•Parent or sponsor’s funds: Bank statement(s)** in the sponsor’s name showing balance of account.
•Other institutional support/awards letters: Official letter showing amount and length of support.
•Loan certificates/letters: Must indicate applicant’s name or sponsor’s name and the amount of approved loan. Conditional loan approvals may be accepted only if the condition is the receipt of your I-20 of DS-2019.
Unacceptable Financial Documents
Documents older than 60 days
Income or salary statements
Funds that are not immediately accessible (i.e. liquid)
Assets that are no in liquidated form (house, car, etc)
Life insurance policy statements
Pensions funds
Tax return forms or documents
Loan applications
**Bank/Financial statements must:
Clearly show the financial institution’s name, account holder’s name, account balance, and type of currency;
Be dated within the past 60 days (older statements will not be accepted);
Be translated into English (especially names) – unofficial translations are accepted;
Show that assets/funds are liquid and can be converted to cash.
I-20 Processing
Upon submission and review of appropriate documents, once international student has matriculated to CUH, I-20 will be processed. The I-20 will be sent to student via email as well as the original physically sent to student confirmed address. Upon arrival to CUH, international student will need to meet with the University DSO, in person, to submit the following documents: a copy of their I-94 , valid passport, valid VISA, and current US address for SEVIS registration.
International Transfer Students
International students transferring to CUH will need to contact their current institution's International Office/DSO to complete the Transfer In Form regarding the release of the student's SEVIS number to CUH. This form can be obtained from the DSO in the Records Office. Student will need to submit all appropriate supporting documents (valid passport, valid VISA, up-to-date Certificate of Finances) to DSO as well.
International students transferring out of CUH will need to contact the DSO to complete the Transfer Out form to release student's SEVIS number to their next institution. Student status must be active in order to be transferred. Should a student's SEVIS account have been terminated, student will need to reapply for a new SEVIS number. Transfer Out Form can be obtained from the DSO in the Records Office.
