Law, History & Culture (B.A.) Learning Outcomes

The Law, History and Culture legal studies program will ensure that graduates of the program will receive a broad education aligned with both the institutional mission of collaborative learning that prepares graduates for life, service and successful careers and the goals of a rigorous examination of law, history and culture program. WASC accreditation requires that programs demonstrate clear learning outcomes, the ability to assess those outcomes, and evidence of student learning.

1. Key Features of the Law, History and Culture Program
   Interdisciplinary Approach: Students will be encouraged to take courses across departments such as Political Science, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Economics, and English, with a focus on subjects that relate directly to legal studies and the development of critical reasoning skills with an emphasis on expository writing and communication skills.

2. Critical Thinking & Analytical Skills: Emphasizing the legal profession’s commitment to rigorous intellectual inquiry, the program emphasizes logical reasoning and evidence-based argumentation, providing a strong foundation for the analytical thinking required in law school.

3. Ethical and Social Responsibility: Inspired by Chaminade University’s Marianist Values and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Cultural inclusion, this program has a strong emphasis on ethics and public service, students will study legal ethics, human rights, and social justice, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of law’s role in society.

4. Practical Exposure: The Law, History and Culture Major integrates practical experiences through internships, shadowing legal professionals, and participation in local legal clinics, ensuring students gain real-world exposure to the field.
