This course provides a graduate-level survey of the dynamics shaping China’s internal and external struggles in the modern world. Starting from the late Imperial period, the student is familiarized with China’s 20th century political experiments, the reform and opening period, the nature and logic of the Leninist governing system, and contemporary political and business issues under Xi Jinping.
