Overview
Description
This course provides an in-depth exploration of behavioral and social-emotional assessment and intervention strategies within PK-12 educational settings. Students will examine evidence-based principles of learning theory, behavior modification, positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), and social-emotional learning (SEL) to address the needs of diverse student populations. The course emphasizes a problem-solving framework for data-based decision-making and culturally responsive practices to ensure equity in assessment and intervention. Students will develop skills in conducting behavioral assessments, identifying target behaviors, implementing evidence-based strategies such as contingency management and group interventions, and evaluating outcomes to support student success. Through applied activities and case studies, students will learn to assess social-emotional needs and design interventions that enhance resilience, adaptive skills, and positive behavior while fostering safe and supportive learning environments. This course prepares future school psychologists to apply critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and evidence-based practices to improve student outcomes in collaboration with families, educators, and community stakeholders.
