Description
This course will explore the intersection of leadership and clinical practice within diverse educational and mental health systems. Emphasis will be placed on understanding and navigating the complex dynamics of culturally responsive academic and mental health programming for
diverse learners. Students will examine the theory and processes related to supporting students holistically from diverse cultural backgrounds while considering the impact of counselor and educator prejudices, biases, values, ethics, and social/cultural expectations. Students will learn to assess, plan, and tailor educational opportunities and mental health practices through a systems-based approach to create inclusive, innovative, and collaborative learning communities. The course will also delve into the application of clinical systems knowledge to effectively lead and support the mental health needs of diverse learners, recognizing the learner as part of an integrated system of mutually reciprocal components (family, environment, school, social structure, friends, culture, etc.).
