Overview
Description
This is the second course in a two-part field-based sequence that builds on the skills and knowledge developed in Internship A, focusing on advanced mental health counseling practices within P-12 school settings. Under the supervision of a licensed mental health counselor (or equivalent license per DCCA requirements) and a licensed school counselor, students will further develop their ability to recognize, assess, and intervene in complex mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and academic and behavioral concerns. Interns will refine their skills in individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and collaboration with educators, families, and community mental health resources while taking on advanced responsibilities such as program development and implementing data-driven interventions. Through direct service delivery and active participation in school activities, students will strengthen their professional identity as culturally competent, ethical, and reflective practitioners. Internship B requires the completion of approximately 300 hours (150 direct service hours and 150 administrative hours), fulfilling the total 600-hour internship requirement. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Psy 671 Internship A.
